Jamsu and I decided to do a buddy reread of the Lux series! This being our first ever buddy read, please go easy on us 😛
Instead of posting our reviews for the book on our blogs, we thought that it would be nice to exchange reviews and post each other’s review, so the review you’ ll find below is Jamsu’s and mine is posted on her blog!
Series: Lux #1
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Genres: Paranormal Romance, Aliens
Release Date: 8 May 2012
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don’t kill him first, that is.
Add it on Goodreads!
This was a buddy read I did with Demi almost immediately after I got my hardcover edition in my hands. I had paperback editions but I gave them to my best friend few months ago, in an attempt to make her read them.
Neither of us had done a buddy read before (unless you count the time I spend hours in a phone with my friend Laura while she read Simon vs. Homo sapiens Agenda in English and I did in Finnish) so we had some difficulties but I really enjoyed doing this!
It has been so long since I read this that it was nice to get back to it. This is the only young adult book besides The Lunar Chronicles that I have read about aliens and I just love it so much. It’s so different from those “I see a girl… let’s kidnap her and marry her” kind of books I see a lot for adult audience.
I could relate to Katy so much for her love for books and having book blog. She couldn’t resist Daemon but she didn’t want to be pushover either which I admired about her. Katy also had same kind of thought about Halloween as I do.
I have mixed feelings about how protective Daemon is about Dee. He loves his sister very much but it also made him such a jerk towards Katy. I wasn’t a big fan of his hot and cold attitude but he also had his moments.
“I’ve always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect.”
I can’t wait to get to see Katy and Daemon’s relationship develop again while we’re doing this reread.
I never got why people compared this to Twilight but now I kind of do. If you don’t like Twilight it doesn’t mean you won’t like this one, It’s still completely different. Unlike Bella I actually love Katy. If you love paranormal young adult books I think you really should give this series a chance!
