Title: The Man In Black
Series: Chicago Syndicate Novel, Standalone
Author: Soraya Naomi
Genre: Dark Mafia Romance
Release Date: 9 August 2018
He consumed my mind. I never even crossed his.
From the moment I met Michael, mysteriously brooding and dressed like a dark angel, there was something electric between us. Or so I thought.
What I believed was a seductive and undeniably raw attraction has ended up being something else entirely, something I never foresaw.
Because he’s a skilled liar and a master manipulator, and I downright misread his intentions.
And now I’m afraid that falling for the man in black might become my biggest regret.
An overwhelming remorse haunts me after losing my fiancée, but I’m not a man who can afford to lower my guard.
I’m a ruthless criminal, one of the top members of the merciless mafia, the Chicago Syndicate, and I moved back home to keep to myself and do a job.
But when a curvaceous pastry chef with a beautiful smile and a possible link to my former life catches me in a reckless moment, I’m forced to watch her and strategize a plan.
Because I’m not sure if she’s out to get me or if she’s just an innocent civilian who doesn’t know that the restaurant she works at is actually a front to launder Syndicate money.
And I intend to find out if she’s playing me while I’m playing her. But then the demons that haunt me force me to make a huge mistake…
Deceit has a price—I just have to make sure I don’t pay with her life.

This was my first book in the Chicago Syndicate series and my first book from the author. Let me tell you that I loved it!
Brielle is the new pastry chef in Palermo, a high-end Italian restaurant. Michael is the Security Director for Palermo. What Brielle doesn’t know is that Palermo is truly a front for the Chicago Syndicate, a drug-dealing crime organization. They meet each other when one night Michael forgets his gun in the kitchen and Brielle finds it. Michael is closed of and cold towards her, since he lost his fiancée four months ago in a business gone bad. Now seeing Brielle, he’s suspicious of her since she has something in common with his late fiancée. While trying to figure out is she really is who she says she is, they form a connection and start to know each other. However, Michael is broody and his mood changes faster than he eats Brielle’s desserts 😛
Their chemistry is palpable through the book; I actually felt it. Michael is a tormented man and he feels guilty for what happened with his fiancée. Brielle had her fair share of loss and can relate to him and want to help him, he just don’t let her. He is constantly cold and hot and it’s so frustrating. Michael makes many mistakes and the bigger one is that he doesn’t tell her the truth about Palermo. However, the truth always comes out and this one will find Brielle in a bad place.
The book is full of twists and turns. Brielle and Michael’s connection is sizzling hot and their chemistry is off the charts. I constantly felt suspicious of everyone, since they were looking for a spy in the book. I really like the secondary characters and I’m so excited that they have their own books; I can’t wait to read those! The book ended beautifully and gave Brielle and Michael the ending they deserve! I hope that in the future we will see more of these couples!
